Holiday Chocolate Chip Cookies

Last night I had a holiday cookie party in my kitchen. And by holiday cookie party I mean I baked holiday cookies last night while my husband and I were making dinner and hanging out with Omar in our sweatpants. But it was a party IMO, because it resulted in a big batch of cookies as the best kinds of parties always do.

These are basically just a holiday spin on my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. Holiday sprinkles, m&m’s and peppermint bark are just a couple of ideas for toppings. I also tried out a chocolate chip, white chocolate chip, peppermint crunch combination, and it did not disappoint. Whether you’re making these for yourself or making these for a holiday party (with more than just two people and a dog, if that’s more your cup of tea), they’re perfect for all things December.

Holiday Cookies

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 cups semi sweet chocolate chips separated

Toppings (optional)

  • Ghirradeli Peppermint Bark
  • Holiday M&m's
  • Sprinkles
  • Peppermint Crunch
  • White Chocolate Chips

  1. Preheat oven to 375° F.
  2. Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in 2 cups of chocolate chips. For small cookies, use a tablespoon or cookie dough scoop to drop one-inch balls onto baking sheet. For giant cookies, like the ones pictured above, use 3 scoops of dough for each cookie.

  3. Bake for about 10 minutes or until golden brown. Before they cool, sprinkle additional chocolate chips on top. Then put desired toppings on top of the melting chocolate chips, so they stick on.

  4. Makes about 4 dozen small cookies or 10 giant cookies.
