Seven Layer S’mores Bars

Follow me!

I’m sad to say I had my first s’mores of the summer only a couple of weeks ago. They’re a staple that honestly should be a part of every summer BBQ or get together of the season. However, sometimes, if you’re like myself, you may find in yourself in a pickle where the s’mores craving hits and a fire pit is nowhere to be seen. Over time, I’ve certainly done my fair share of microwave s’mores, but they’re really just not the same. The graham cracker-chocolate-marshmallow sandwich just isn’t as good when the marshmallow has been zapped in the microwave rather than being toasted slowly over a flickering evening fire. One day soon I’m thinking I need to purchase a fire pit for our backyard, but until that time comes, I have to come up with other measures to fix my ever-present summer s’mores cravings. Rather than resort to the microwave version, I decided to put together a Seven Layer S’mores Bar that I could pop in the oven. The layers involve all of the good stuff of a traditional s’more. Before attacking these bars when they came out of the oven, I added the finishing touch of torching the marshmallows ever so slightly with my mini blowtorch. It doesn’t quite match the authenticity of an outside fire-toasted mallow, but it will be sufficient until a fire pit makes its way into our backyard.

So, gather the usual s’mores-making suspects and a can of sweetened condensed milk, and make these ridiculously amazing S’mores Seven Layer Bars for dessert tonight. You might be able to eat just one, or you might devour an entire pan over the course of a single week like I did. Enjoy!

S'mores Seven Layer Bars

Ingredients

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 3/4 cup butter melted
  • 1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup broken graham cracker pieces
  • 3 Hershey's chocolate bars

Instructions

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F. Spray a 9x13 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together graham cracker crumbs and melted butter. Press mixture into prepared baking dish. Spread sweetened condensed milk over the top.
  3. Sprinkle half of marshmallows, all of the chocolate chips, and graham cracker pieces over the top.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with remaining marshmallows. Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until marshmallows are browned and edges are golden.
  5. Remove from oven to a cooling rack and place chocolate pieces on top. If you want, use a blow torch to toast the marshmallows for a golden-brown effect. Allow to cool for at least 15 minutes before cutting into pieces and serving. Bars will still be gooey but will hold together. For best results, allow to cool completely.

In this grand scheme of things you secure a B- for effort and hard work. Where exactly you lost me personally ended up being on the details. You know, they say, the devil is in the details… And it could not be more correct at this point. Having said that, allow me inform you precisely what did work. Your article (parts of it) can be pretty persuasive and that is most likely why I am taking the effort to opine. I do not really make it a regular habit of doing that. Secondly, while I can see a jumps in logic you come up with, I am not really convinced of exactly how you seem to connect the details that produce your conclusion. For now I shall yield to your point but hope in the near future you actually link your facts better.

Aw, this was a really good post. Spending some time and actual effort to generate a great article… but what can I say… I procrastinate a whole lot and don’t manage to get anything done.
