Reese’s Puffs Marshmallow Treats

Follow me!

The other day, when I was on Fall break from school, I naturally arose, wide awake, at around 6:30 AM, and decided to do a little early morning baking. My cookie bars were all ready to go into the oven, when I noticed something mysterious. My oven had never beeped to signal that it was preheated, although I had programmed it to 350 F when I had first stepped into the kitchen. It still said “PRE HT” on the digital face, despite having been heating up for over 20 minutes. Curious, very curious.

I bent down and opened up the oven in order to investigate the situation, and cold air blasted me in the face. What. The. Hay.  I stood back up, and started furiously pressing random buttons on the oven (that always fixes the problem, right?) The buttons were beeping at me but I eventually faced the fact that there was no hot air to be coming from my oven that morning. Like the non-home-owner that I am, I texted my landlord immediately. There was no possible way I could last very long without a functioning oven. I would certainly go through cookie withdrawal. Bad things would happen if this didn’t get fixed soon. I need my oven. I need my oven because I need to bake desserts quite frequently, and that’s just a matter of fact.

Well, the appliance repair guy wasn’t scheduled to come until the following Tuesday, and I obviously got bored of not baking desserts every other day. I remembered that there’s a such thing as no-bake desserts and then I felt really dumb for not realizing that sooner. And what’s basically the most classic no-bake dessert of all time? Rice Krispie Treats of course, a childhood favorite that really should never be forgotten about. They’re like 3 ingredients and they’re so delicious. People don’t remember how good those things are, especially the homemade ones that are made using an entire bag of marshmallows. Well, you know me. I wasn’t just going to make regular Krispie Treats when I could make a variation with peanut butter, and lots of it. This recipe would work with any cereal, really, if you’re not big into Rice Krispies and Reese’s Puffs don’t quite do it for you. But, they definitely do it for me, so, I present to you: Reese’s Puffs Marshmallow Treats, a variation on an old favorite.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 bag marshmallows
  • 6 cups Reese's Puffs cereal
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup Reese's peanut butter chips
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9x13" pan with baking spray and set aside.

In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Then, add the bag of marshmallows and microwave for about 45 seconds. Remove from the microwave and mix until smooth. Add in the peanut butter and stir. Fold in the cereal and mix until well-coated.

Spread the cereal mixture into the pan evenly. Then, spread the peanut butter chips and chocolate chips on top, patting down so it sticks to the cereal. Cool at room temperature for at least 30 minutes prior to serving.
